Unravelling the heart

Thanks to my friend and colleague, Michael Thys, I had the amazing opportunity to witness the dissection of this cow heart, which was done in a way that respects the helical (spiral) arrangement of its muscle fibers. Isn't it incredible??

Can you spot the "heart strings," the tendinous chords that tug on the valves of the heart?

Also, fun fact we learned while dissecting this heart is that bovine hearts have a BONE in them! It's called the os cardis.
